Allen Tanner graduated from Johns Hopkins University in 1978 and the University of San Francisco School of Law in 1981. After passing the Texas Bar exam in 1981, he prosecuted cases at the Harris County District Attorneys office in Houston Texas until 1985, when he then entered into the private practice of law. His law practice has been totally dedicated to representing accused citizens. Allen Tanner became Board Certified in criminal law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in 1989. He is approved as lead counsel in death penalty cases by the Second and Third Administrative Judicial Regions in Texas.
Allen has extensive experience in representing people who are facing serious criminal charges. During his years as a criminal defense lawyer, he has represented thousands of individuals charged with all types of felony offenses. Allen has tried over 200 felony jury trials involving capital murder, sexual assault, burglary, aggravated robbery, fraud and drugs. Many of Allen’s clients plead Not Guilty and take their case before a jury as to the guilt issue. However, many admit their guilt and Allen then attempts to lessen their punishment whereby they receive pretrial diversion, deferred adjudication or a lesser sentence from a jury. He has often used psychiatric testimony to attempt to explain his client’s actions. Nine of his clients were facing the death penalty from a jury. He has tried death penalty cases in Houston, Victoria, Fredericksburg, Corpus Christi and Austin. His most news-worthy cases include Ron Howard, who used rap music inspiration as his defense in the killing of a state trooper, and serial killer Angel Resindez, known as the “Railroad Killer.” If Allen is your attorney he promises to do everything possible in attempt to help in your defense.
